Treatment: AquaGold facial – Dr. Nina Bal, London

[This is not a sponsored post. The treatment was a gifted experience.]

When it comes to anti-ageing treatments, we’re often guilty of going all-in on an all-or-nothing approach. Whether it’s spending hundreds on expensive creams promising to turn back time, or relying on Botox and fillers in our pursuit for youth, we splash the cash without really knowing where the answer lies. And as we all know, there’s no one quick fix.

However, more and more frequently we’re looking towards minor ‘tweakments’ and more natural solutions to fighting fine lines and rejuvenating our skin, and increased awareness of key ingredients and skincare techniques means we’re better equipped to choose procedures that are effective, yet more natural and gentle than what may previously have been the best option.

So when I was offered a consultation with Dr. Nina Bal at her Chelsea Private Clinic (Cosmetech) in London and the opportunity to try out the AquaGold fine touch facial, which “takes a prune and makes it look like a plum” – thanks Nina – I couldn’t wait to see what it did to my skin. Because not only is the name AquaGold impressive, it also comes with a cocktail of key ingredients, including Hyaluronic acid, Botox, and a selection of vitamins and antioxidants, which promises to bring skin back to life.

AquaGold Facial | Carry On Connor

The AquaGold treatment uses a 24 karat gold thread micro-injection, which painlessly delivers the ingredients deep into the skin with a droplet splaying effect, for a deeply hydrating facial that also improves firmness, elasticity and smoothness. The Hyaluronic acid absorbs water and brings deep skin hydration to the treated areas, while Botox applied into the dermis – not the muscle – helps shrink pore openings, for a clearer overall complexion. In fact, AquaGold is the only recognised treatment that has an actual physical effect on pore size, helping keep skin clear and bright.

The formulation, Dr. Nina told me, is completely adaptable, and that’s what makes this treatment so brilliant – the cocktail of ingredients can be developed to target certain issues. Elasticity, firmness, pigmentation, collagen production and pore size can all be targeted, and your clinician can adapt the dosage to suit your specific needs. Another major upside of the AquaGold is its long-lasting results. The benefits are visible immediately and continue to develop for three to four weeks, with vitamins and antioxidants stimulating the skin for improved healing and helping maintain collagen levels.

Whenever I sit down for a new treatment, I never know what to expect and, while I’m well-versed with micro-needling etc. I wasn’t quite sure how the AquaGold – which is the tool itself, not the formulation – was going to feel. However, it’s surprisingly soothing, and at no time did I feel uncomfortable. There’s also no blood whatsoever, and I was shocked by how close to the eyes, for example, the tool could safely go. Although the skin is cleansed before the treatment, and there’s no topical product applied, my skin felt nourished and not even slightly dry by the end of the session – which was only around 10 minutes long – after which I was on my way.

What’s brilliant is there’s no downtime with the AquaGold treatment, and it’s effective right from the get-go. However, a word of warning – there will be some redness for around 1 hour afterwards. Of course, that’s pretty standard, but if you’re like me and decide to make plans for dinner immediately afterwards, you may find yourself with a bit of explaining to do. It did subside pretty quickly, though, and apart from that there were no signs that I’d had any kind of treatment.

Following the session, I was genuinely shocked by just how effective the AquaGold facial was. For weeks afterwards my skin was glowing, and far more naturally hydrated that it was beforehand. I only really realised when I passed a mirror and noticed my skin appeared to be particularly clear – and that was before I’d applied any skincare for the day. My skin looked bright, awake and clear – far from the usual 7 am sight I’m confronted with each morning. Honestly, this facial works!

I feel like I always have to add the caveat that, yes, I’m only 23, and I’m only going to see a fraction of the effects someone with skin 20 years older than me will. But, what I experienced was impressive, so for skin that’s even more tired and in need of some TLC, I can only imagine how effective the AquaGold will be. The complete list of areas of treatment includes:

  • Melasma & Pigmentation
  • Acne Scarring
  • Fine Lines & Wrinkles
  • Enlarged Pores & Excess Sebum
  • Brightens and Lightens
  • Clarifies / Refine
  • Hydrates & Rejuvenates
  • Hair Loss

Based on the brilliant experience I had with the facial, and with the lovely Dr. Nina herself, I would absolutely recommend the AquaGold treatment if you’re looking to rejuvenate your skin are give yourself a bit of a refresh. Topical facials can only go so far and, if you’re going to splash out and want a painless, quick and easy treatment with long-lasting results, then the AquaGold is for you.
