Heading out in the winter isn’t ideal at the best of times and if you’re anything like me you’ll do all you can to avoid it. I make no apologies for the fact that – unless the sun’s out and the temperature’s in the high teens – I’ll probably be in my fluffy hoodie with a glass of wine and a Netflix box set. Oh, the perks of working from home…
However, that’s not so practical, and the majority of us have to go out and earn some dollar. And if there’s one thing worse than the darkness of early winter mornings, it’s arriving at the office feeling terrible – because you’ve literally endured a blizzard to get there. Your hair’s a mess, skin feels tight, and really you just want to go home, crawl back in bed and start again.
With that in mind, today’s post is all about the best products to carry around during the winter months that can really help you zhoosh yourself up quickly and easily and you feel ready for the day. Of course, some of these I use all year round, but if you’re looking for that miracle product to throw in your bag and fix all your problems, this is the place to start.
Start with a spritz
No, I’m not talking Aperol – although that sounds like a good idea, doesn’t it?!
Picture this: you’ve walked through the rain, spent an hour on public transport, braved an icy gale – and you’re pretty much ready to crawl back into bed a hibernate until the summer comes. We all know the feeling, and it ain’t nice.
However, it doesn’t have to be that way…
Face mists are great and are included in skincare round-ups all summer long. But come winter, we don’t hear about them again – why? Of course, I’m not talking about replacing your entire skincare routine with a mist – that’d just be silly (albeit a lot cheaper) – but the last thing you want to be doing is carrying your entire regime around with you, and hydrating mists are a great way of nourishing your skin quickly and conveniently.

Hold at a good distance (arm’s length or thereabouts), spray, and pat in any excess with the tips of your fingers. The My Clarins Re-Fresh Hydrating Beauty Mist is one of my absolute favourites. Not only is it totally refreshing and super hydrating, but it’s also great for all skin types, making it a foolproof option. Plus the packaging is so nice – and you know how I love my packaging!
Argan oil’s a great all-rounder
Here’s where I stand on so-called ‘all-in-one’ products: generally speaking, they’re a big no-no. Yes, they are a nice idea, but different products exist with different formulations for a reason. Whether it’s your face, body, hair… whatever, they all have different requirements, which really can’t be catered to effectively with a single product.
That being said…
What I am a fan of is multi-use ingredients, and argan oil is right at the top of my list – because you can literally use it for anything. Skin, hair nails… there are very few areas of skincare and cosmetics that argan oil isn’t good for and, in the winter months especially, it’s a saviour. Use it as a moisturising serum on your face, apply to dry, chapped skin or lips, or run through the ends of your hair to lift them back to life.
What you want in circumstances like these is nourishment, and with argan oil that’s exactly what you’ll get. The Lord & Berry Sublime Moroccan Argan Oil is one of my favourites for two reasons. Firstly, its 100% pure and organic, and just feels divine. And, arguably more importantly, it comes in a 50ml bottle – which is so rare for oils and serums – as opposed to the usual 30ml options, but the price is kept way down.
Honestly, if you’re on a budget and want a solid, all-round product, spend your money on this right here.
Get the glow
Come 5 pm on the best of days, your skins going to be looking and feeling duller than usual, but when it gets to winter that’s amplified – and if you’re heading out you need a quick fix to perk yourself up fast.
I used to always carry a couple of sheet masks in my bag in case I was caught out, but now I have a new solution – stick masks. Talk about game-changing! Ok, so it’s kind of the same as a traditional mask in a tube, but without the mess. And that’s the key: you paint it onto your face, wait and rinse. It couldn’t be simpler.
The other benefit here is there’s zero chance of leakage. If I’m carrying a tube of product in my bag, I always worry something’s going to knock it and it’ll leak. However, stick masks are as solid as they come, meaning you don’t need to keep an eye on where they’ve got to.
I love the Glow Boost White Clay stick mask from Olay, and its probably my favourite from the entire range because its great at drawing out impurities, but leaves skin looking fresh and feeling hydrated. However, I have to say, these masks have been a revelation – and at a drug store price point, they’re accessible for everyone (especially if your sheet mask habit is getting as out of control as mine!)
So there you have it. Drop me a comment below if you’ve tried any of the above and your thoughts, and let me know your go-to products for when you’re on the go during the winter months!
