I said I wouldn’t write a ‘Welcome’ post

I’ve wanted to make this website for so long now, that by the time I actually committed myself to it I was almost over the idea. Well, not really… I suppose I felt like I’d already done it all, then I realised everything was still in my head and a complete mystery to everyone else. Which wasn’t surprising, because I’m usually on a different wavelength to everyone else anyway…

Over the past few months a lot happened, most of which was really good, but it meant I had to take a step back and rethink my priorities for a while. And naturally, I set a launch date then realised, “shit, now I’ve got to actually make this happen”. But it’s Sunday – the day before we go live – when I’m writing this, and we’re there – almost!

Anyway, let’s get the resume part out of the way:

I moved down to London from Blackpool – “You went there as a kid? Really, how nice…” is my go-to response – in 2015 for uni, really with no intention of going back. So I drank worked my way through uni, studying English and Drama – somehow came out with a first – and then realised it was time to actually make something happen. But when I finished up with classes last year, I had that awful humanities student moment of thinking, ‘Now why did I do this again?’ So I took a (terrible) job, got fired (no tears were shed, believe me), took some time out until I’d rinsed my money, then landed the journalism job I wanted. That was in February – hence I took a couple of months off this to make that work – and now I’m back here and picking up where I left off.

The great part about all that is, not only am I lucky enough to be doing something I love – and I know that’s a luxury and I’m grateful every day- but I also get to go to a load of fun events, and test out so many new releases and products etc. So more recently, that’s been the driving force behind this site, and something I hope you’ll enjoy. Because as much as I love what I do and get to write about so many things I love for my job, there are so many other things I want to talk about that I can’t force on people through my day job (much as I’d love to!).

So here we are – finally!

I think now felt like the right time for a number of reasons. So many times I’ve started and stopped this project, because I think it’s impossible to really do anything meaningful during uni years – its just not gonna happen. But after moving in with my boyfriend last September and finally feeling settled for the first time in a long time, I felt like I could actually move forward and start doing the things I wanted to do. So all in all it’s a nice place to be in – and the perfect time to take myself out of my comfort zone and try something new.

So I guess I failed in not writing this post – oh well. But maybe suppose that’s a good thing… I hope you like the site – let me know what you want more of, or if there’s something you want to see on here, leave me a comment down below. There’s also lots more coming up, so make sure you follow my social pages (links top right) for the most up to date content. I’ll also be sending out a weekly newsletter, which will feature a round up what’s been happening, plus loads of fresh content. You can sign up to the mailing list via the ‘Subscribe’ tab on the menu bar at the top.

Now, I’m off to pour a wine –
